Why do this?
To apply this extra image meta data I’ll be using Photoshop, but I first wanted to go over why this is important to do as your average visitor will never see this information. In all honesty there are a only a handful of people that even know where to look for this data. So why is this important you may ask? This info is for the search engine bots. It gives them a way to better index these images. These images then show up in popular image searches such as Google images, Yahoo Images, etc.

Scheduling tweets is a good way to market prior posts with the addition of different titles and or keywords as well as hashtags. Many times when you write a post people have a number of keyword searches that they use to arrive on your page. Even using due diligence when researching keywords it’s often hard to determine what keyword phrase or grouping will trigger the most viewers. By retweeing prior posts you can get them in front of the eyes of your followers that may have missed it before. Not only that, but you can and should try different keyphrases in order to generate more targeted traffic.

I thought I’d take a couple minutes today to talk about how to attract more traffic from Twitter. I recently picked up the e-book Twitter Dummy from John Paul Aulaguiar and have been putting it to the test. Since implementing some of the tips I learned here I’ve been able to quadruple my Twitter traffic in 1 month’s time. Here’s a quick tip for getting your images listed in Google Image Search. There’s no need to actually submit your images to Google Search. They will be crawled by Googlebot next time your site is indexed. You can however update your sitemap.xml file to include more data that can then be used to categorize your image as bots cannot read embedded text.

Search engine bots crawl the internet spitting back the results you see when you do a a search online. To get an idea of what the bots see check out the Lynx text based web browser. As you can see from the screenshot below all the bots see are text or text embedded within an image.
