10 More Droid Apps You Must Have

The beauty of the smart phone is that with new apps coming out all the time you don’t have to feel like you can’t have the new features everyone else does. When new apps come out you can simply download them and off you go. The following is a list of Droid apps I use all the time. Are these truly must have apps for droid? Download them for yourself and see if you can do with out them. Having these applications will drastically enhance your Android experience, but don’t take my word for it.

HootSuite

Fan of the social networking app Hootsuite? HootSuite version 1.0.8 is now available for the Android, iPhone and Blackberry in both a free lite version and pro for $2.99.

Access the Hootsuite app on your mobile phone by scanning the following bar code.

WeFi Connect

This is a great app that will tap into available wireless networks. Automatic detection settings can be configured to connect to wireless networks that you commonly find yourself near. This drastically speeds up your browsing experience and promotes longer battery life. For these 2 reasons I consider this a must have app for the Droid.

Google Sky

I don’t know if this is exactly a, “must have app“, but it is so very cool I had to add it to the list. Once your device gets a coordinate it will map out the stars above your head. I’m no astronomer and I don’t often find myself navigating by the stars, however this is just one of the many amazing pieces of technology that is now available from Google.

Foursquare

I’m a bit of a social media guru so Foursquare is a must have app for me. Since foursquare’s inception over a year ago the application has skyrocted in popularity. Giving people the ability to check in to virtually anywhere in the world at the press of a button.

Foursquare is a mobile application that is a cross between a friend-finder, a social city-guide, and a game that rewards you for doing interesting things. Foursquare lets you “check in” to a place when you’re there, tell friends where you are, and track the history of where you’ve been–and who you’ve been there with. Foursquare challenges you to explore your city in new and fun ways by earning points, winning mayorships, and unlocking badges and specials for trying new places and revisiting old favorites.

Flashlight

Flashlights for the Droid

While this is not the most revolutionary application out there I have to say this is one of the top used applications on my droid. With the click of a button and an expansion of your fingers you can use either a dim light or very bright depending on your need. At first I just thought it was kind of neat, but have found this to be a necessary feature for my phone.

Juice Defender

Juice Defender

This is a great application that will double the life of your battery. If I have a complaint about the droid; and I really don’t, it’s that the battery life can be a little on the short side. With juice defender you can set how your phone uses available juice to drastically expand the life of your battery. Since I installed this app I get about a day and a half of solid use time before my battery is completely drained.

System Panel

System panel for the droid is somewhat like the device manager for windows. It tells you which applications are running, how much cpu and memory is available and just how much storage you have left on your device. It also tells you how hot your phone is running as well as specific device information such as cpu, OS Info, java version and network info.

Twitter

Twitter

I’m a big fan of Hootsuite and Tweetdeck, but the Twitter application for the droid is just too nice to not install. Fully animated it provides you with the same information that the website does only IMHO a more visually aethetic way. Install it and decide for yourself.

HP iPrint Photo

This is only a must have if you own a wireless hp photo printer. With HP iPrint Photo you can easily connect to your wireless printer and immediately begin printing photos. I can’t say that I’m always happy with my hp printer as far as networking goes, but with this app I literally downloaded and installed it and was printing in minutes. Simple is good.

Capture, crop and print photos on plain or photo paper in a variety of sizes, including 3.5″x5″, 4″x6″, 5″x7″ (9x13cm, 10x15cm and 13x18cm).

Finger Bowling

Finger Bowling

Ok so this isn’t anything that is an end all or be all as far as free droid apps go, but what it lacks in practicality it makes up for in crazy fun addictive-ness. It’s a great game I find myself playing all the time.
