I just got a new Droid this weekend and I couldn’t be more thrilled with it. I’m proud to say that I’m now one of those annoying guys who wont stop playing with his phone. So be it. I’m a techie and I’ve come to grips with it. Though if you see me walking around with one of those obnoxious little blue tooth head sets stuck in my ear you have my permission to punch me square in the face.
All nonsense aside I’ve really started embracing the mobile culture which means embracing mobile design standards. If you’re using WordPress it takes a lot of the work out of setting all the necessary css settings for different phone types. I’ve created a quite a few mobile pages specifically for the Blackberry so I am familiar with mobile design standards.
I’m currently using WordPress Mobile Pack and am happy to announce that you can now access NateBal.com with your favorite mobile device.
Using WordPress Mobile Pack
WordPress Mobile Pack is controlled by 3 tabs under, “Appearance”, in your WordPress Admin Panel. Mobile Theme, Mobile Widgets and Mobile Switcher.
Mobile Theme: Under the, “Mobile Theme”, tab you have options for how you would like your mobile site displayed. You can set up the number of posts and how they are displayed here. There is also options to display widgets and images here.
Mobile Widgets: Under, “Mobile Widgets”, you can select which widgets you have installed on your website that will show up on the mobile site. If any.
Mobile Switcher: The, “Mobile Switcher”, can detect whether the user is using a mobile device or has requested a mobile domain. It will switch theme accordingly. You also set your default mobile template here.
You have further control options under your WordPress, “Settings”, tab under, “Mobile”, where you set the supported browsers. You can further promote your mobile site under, “mpexo”. Mpexo is an online directory of mobile sites built using the WordPress Mobile Pack.
Since the Mobile Pack uses the, “Mobile Switcher“, it displays your website accordingly via css depending on your browser type. I have set up the sub domain m.natebal.com as this is now the mobile standard. In the near future my mobile site will live here.

The following mobile browsers and touch browsers are supported by WordPress Mobile Pack.
