Must Have Droid Apps

I got a Droid about a month ago and I can’t stop downloading apps for it. I’m now one of those annoying guys that has his phone out every ten seconds. It seems they have an app for anything you can think of. Below is a list of some must haves I’ve run across and kept installed.

Calorie Counter

Simple tool to find all calorie and nutrition facts. Includes a barcode scanner that pulls calorie data for anything.

Big Killer

The one thing I didn’t realize when I initially got my Droid was that it can run multiple apps at a time. I think 6 total. In order to not kill your battery you need to make sure you’re not constantly running apps you’ve started. The guy at Best Buy turned me onto Big Killer. It’s easy to use and allows for you to only turn off the applications you choose. This is a definite must have for battery life.

Gentle Alarm Clock

I ended up buying the clock docking station which doubles as a charger and works in conjunction well with this app. It’s not as pretty as better alarm, but the way it works is amazing. It starts off with a light, then goes to a low level progressive alarm that gradually gets louder the longer you sleep in. It has the typical snooze as well which pops right up once the alarm goes off.

Photoshop

Photoshop mobile is obviously a lot lighter than the actual PS, but is a fine little photo editing app. Features include crop, exposure, saturation, contrast, soft focus and some built in filters. I actually used this to edit a photo while I was in the woods riding my bike.

Background Changer

This is a great program that swaps out your back ground images at what ever interval you choose. I have mine to pull from a huge gallery and change my wallpaper every 15 mins. So pretty much every time I open my phone it looks different.

Google Goggles

Google Goggles captures images through your camera and the provides Google results on your phone. This works with buildings that are indexed as well as products.

Scanlife

Scan barcodes into your phone to provide website information, dial phone numbers or pull up mobile versions of your website.

SportsTrac

This one will cost you about 6 dollars American, but it’s worth every penny. This is a great app that plots courses as you ride, walk, run, etc. I use it for biking and it works great. Simply turn it on when you are ready to start your trip and go. When your done you can then upload this info to the website which will then overlay the satellite imagery. You can follow your trail and even press play to watch how you did. SportsTrac provides avg speed, top speed, elevation and more. Only down side is it is in Kms, not miles.

Roboform

RoboForm is a password protecting program. There’s an app that runs on your desktop that will keep your passwords saved on their secure server. The app for your phone then access any passwords you have saved and makes it super easy to log in to websites using your phone
