I stopped dropping cards about 6 months ago. I was pretty active for a while and I did see results in Google Analytics, but I don’t know how targeted my traffic was. It did increase the amount of unique hits I was getting, but it also increased the amount of spam comments I was getting. In the end I don’t know what value it added to my site. The very nature of Entrecard feels like something that will eventually be banned by the major search engines.
Entrecard Power Dropping
As you can see in the video below this person has a number of websites open that are using the Entrecard widget. Once each page is loaded it’s a race to see how fast the widget can be located and clicked on. Quickly followed by shutting down that tab so the next card can be hit. While it does promote visitors I believe it must also cause a spike spike in your bounce rate.
With that said I did find some cool sites that I continue to visit to this day on Entrecard. I suppose if you’re actively dropping cards you’ll eventually pick up on some sites worth their weight, but I feel like I get better results from posting to relevant blogging sites like , Blog Engage, Blog Catalog, etc.
Any time you try to automate any of these tasks it waters down your message and brings you short term irrelevant traffic. It’s a judgment call, but in my heart of hearts I feel like there are much better ways to attain traffic. There are better things I could be doing to promote traffic other than randomly clicking on a button on someone’s else’s website.
Does anyone agree or am I way off base here?
